I think Gamma V's Super Mario World mods though, they're usually pretty reasonable. If you want a hack that attempts to make a new game, I don't know what to suggest, I find most hacks that try to make new games are really poorly designed or way too hard to be enjoyable by anyone other than speed runners seeking a challenge. Probably for the best since some of the planned content was starting to get weird. More content was planned for this hack but I don't think it's happening anymore. You can also choose the 'Ring Teather' mechanic from Knuckles Chaotix, but I don't know why you'd want to. You can also choose just two if you want Sonic and Tails. If you're not feeling the team tagging mechanic, you can choose to play as just one character. Sonic Classic Heroes is my favorite hack of all time, it puts Sonic 1 and 2 into one game, you have the option to play through Sonic 1, Sonic 2, or both with new cutscenes added to transition to the next game, it has a save feature, and the biggest draw is that they added a Sonic Heroes style mechanic where you can switch between characters, you have Team Sonic, and Team Chaotix to choose from, each with their own special moves.
